Forza Horizon 3 remains a beloved open-world racing game set against the vibrant landscapes of Australia. Many PC gamers looking to experience this classic title often search for Steam key options to add the game to their Valve digital libraries. However, understanding how platform availability and licensing work is essential before attempting to make any purchase.
The Reality of Forza Horizon 3 on Steam
Forza Horizon 3 was launched exclusively on Xbox One and Windows PC via the Microsoft Store in September 2016. The game never received an official release on Valve's Steam platform, as the franchise only debuted on Steam starting with Forza Horizon 4 in 2021. Consequently, genuine Forza Horizon 3 Steam keys do not exist in any capacity.
Any online listing or seller claiming to offer a Steam code for Forza Horizon 3 is misleading or fraudulent. PC players should be cautious when encountering these claims on unverified marketplaces. Understanding this platform restriction helps players avoid scam offers and potential financial losses.
Official Delisting and Key Redemptions
Microsoft officially delisted Forza Horizon 3 from digital storefronts in September 2020 due to expiring vehicle and music licenses. This action removed the title from official Microsoft Store purchase options for new buyers. However, existing owners retain permanent access to redownload and play the game whenever they wish.
For those who do not own it, remaining digital keys sold by authorized third-party resellers are for Microsoft Store activation. These pre-paid digital codes utilize Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere program, granting access to both Xbox One and Windows PC versions. Once redeemed on a Microsoft account, players can install the game directly through the Xbox app on PC.
Alternative Options for PC Racers
If purchasing third-party Microsoft activation keys proves too costly or risky, PC players have modern alternatives available. Later entries in the franchise offer refined driving physics, larger environments, and native Steam support. These newer titles provide a seamless multiplayer experience alongside official ongoing platform support.
Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Horizon 5 are both actively available on Steam with full feature sets. Choosing these accessible entries ensures reliable digital ownership and modern hardware optimization. Exploring recent releases remains the most straightforward path for fans wanting open-world racing on PC.
